Today I want to present a special message about the current situation of the world, which with COVID-19 and all the lockdowns, how things are different and what’s the state of veterinary medicine today, because you’re going to notice there are a lot of changes.

The goal right now is three things. One is to continue to treat pets the best way that we can, two – to keep our staff safe, and three – to keep you safe. We’re doing what we can to not continue to spread the virus. What you’ve probably heard and noticed is that almost all clinics around the country have gone to a curbside veterinary model which we’re doing as well. What happens is you will take your pet out of the car, we will bring them into the exam room, we’ll do our exam, and then we call you with what we find and what we think that needs to happen moving forward. But because Coastal Animal Hospital is all about staying at the forefront and doing everything we can, the best way that we can, we’re actually incorporating some technology into this to actually make things better. I think it’s actually going to create better outcomes for the pets and for you and for us too because we’re going to be in this curbside model for the foreseeable future. It’s not going to be stopping anytime soon. In order to actually get the best outcomes, we’re instituting something called “reverse telemedicine”. When we bring the pet into the exam room, we’re going to bring you into the exam room as well, but we’re going to do it through a video conference. You’ll need to download the Zoom app and we’ll be able to link you into this exam room. So as I’m doing my exam, I’ll be able to ask you questions, hey, have you noticed this? What are your concerns over here? Is she taking any medications? Then we’ll be able to come up with that plan together. And that’s how we treat our pets the best way. We’ve never been a hospital where we dictate what’s going to happen to your pet. We’re not going to tell you what to do. You don’t get as good of outcomes that way. The best outcomes you get is when I have my findings, I ask you what you’re seeing, and then we come up with that plan together. And that’s how we get the best outcomes with pets. And that’s really the missing piece with this new curbside veterinary model.

Since we started bringing you into the exam room with a video conference platform its really been a huge upgrade. And this is the way that we continue to embrace technology to get the best outcomes.

I just wanted to give you that update so you know what to expect when you’re coming in to see us. We’re looking forward to taking care of your pets and then making sure everybody stays safe during this totally crazy time. If you have any questions, give us a call and we’d be happy to take care of anything that you need.
